Version: 1.0

Home Fraud Defense™ Cookie Policy

Version: 1.1 Effective Date: May 7, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Home Fraud Defense, LLC ("HFD," "we," "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on the Home Fraud Defense websites and mobile apps (the "Services"). This Policy supplements, and is incorporated into, our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

1. Plain-English Summary

We use only the minimum cookies needed to run the site (sign-in session, security, preferences). We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, advertising networks, or any other cross-site tracking technology. Our website analytics provider, Plausible, is cookieless — it does not set any cookies and does not collect personal data. As a result, we do not display a cookie consent banner, because we are not setting any cookie that legally requires one.

2. What Are Cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device when you visit. Cookies allow the website to recognize your device on subsequent visits, remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and secure your session. We also use similar technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage; for simplicity, we refer to all of these collectively as "cookies" in this Policy.

3. Categories of Cookies We Use

3.a Strictly Necessary (always on)

These cookies are essential to operate the Services and cannot be turned off. Disabling them will prevent the site from functioning.

Purpose Examples
Authentication and session management Sign-in session, CSRF protection, "remember me"
Security Anti-fraud, rate-limit identification, abuse detection
Load balancing and routing CDN edge selection, sticky sessions

3.b Functional / Preference (always on, no tracking)

These cookies remember your settings and improve your experience. They do not identify you individually beyond your account or device.

Purpose Examples
Theme, language, and display preferences Light/dark mode, font size
Recently viewed reports and saved searches Last-viewed Property Visibility Report
Form-fill draft state Suppression-request form draft on refresh

3.c Analytics — cookieless

Website analytics are provided by Plausible Analytics (Plausible Insights OÜ, Estonia). Plausible is privacy-friendly by design:

  • No cookies are set in your browser by Plausible.
  • No personal data is collected. No IP addresses are stored, no device fingerprints are generated, no user identifiers are created.
  • No cross-site tracking. Plausible cannot link your activity on this site to your activity on any other site.
  • Aggregate metrics only. We see total page-view counts, referrer sources, and country-level geographic distribution.

Because Plausible is cookieless and does not process personal data, no consent is required under the EU ePrivacy Directive, GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA, or analogous U.S. state laws.

3.d Advertising / Cross-Context Behavioral Advertising

HFD does not use cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not place advertising pixels (Google Ads, Meta/Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.) and we do not share data with third-party ad networks.

If this changes, we will update this Policy and provide a clear opt-out at /legal/do-not-sell consistent with the California Consumer Privacy Act / California Privacy Rights Act and analogous state laws.

4. Third-Party Cookies

The Services rely on a small number of third-party providers that may set their own cookies on the pages where they are loaded:

Provider Cookie purpose Pages affected
Stripe Fraud prevention, payment session Checkout, subscription-management pages
Google Maps Map tiles, mapping API Pages displaying property maps
Bunny.net Image and video CDN Pages with media
LearnWorlds Course-platform session HFDCP™ Certification course pages

These providers are bound by written contracts with HFD restricting use of cookie data to the purpose for which they were retained.

5. How to Control Cookies

  • Browser controls. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. See allaboutcookies.org for instructions for major browsers. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break the Services.
  • Global Privacy Control (GPC). We honor recognized GPC signals where applicable; receipt of a GPC signal is treated as an opt-out of any "sale" or "share" under California and analogous state law. (Note: because we don't sell or share personal information, GPC has no practical effect on our handling of your data.)
  • Do Not Track (DNT). We do not honor browser-level DNT headers because there is no industry standard for what to do when one is received.

6. Mobile Apps

Our iOS and Android apps do not use browser cookies, but they do use comparable on-device storage (e.g., secure keychain entries, app preferences) for authentication and preference storage. Mobile-app analytics are provided by Plausible's Events API; the app sends aggregate, cookieless screen-view events with no personal identifiers.

7. Children

We do not knowingly use cookies to collect personal information from children under 13. See the Privacy Policy.

8. Changes

We may update this Cookie Policy. The effective date at the top will reflect the latest version. Material changes will be communicated by in-product notice.
