About this data

Baseline shading reflects FBI IC3 & FTC aggregate real-estate fraud reports for higher-population counties. These are historical totals, not current activity.

Live scans are anonymous HFD Fraud Scan lookups, geolocated at the city/county level by the scanner's IP. We never publish per-property scans or the addresses involved.

User reports are attested submissions to the HFD Fraud Registry by homeowners, professionals, and victims. The map shows only how many reports exist per county — never which property they reference. Submissions are reviewed before being included.

Counts shown are not legal findings of fraud. They reflect reports and scan activity, which can include suspected, attempted, or unsubstantiated cases.

County risk levels derived from FBI IC3 complaint density and FTC data aggregates. Hover any highlighted county for details.
